PREPARATION
Stage 4, the Multimodal Presentation assignment cluster, includes 3 due dates. Each of these due dates will allow me to offer you help and advice while you conceptualize your project and produce a draft. Stage 4 in its entirety is worth 10 points of your final grade, divided as follows:
Multimodal Presentation Proposal due November 19 at 11:59PM (2.5 points)
Multimodal Draft Workshop due December 3 at 11:59PM (2.5 points)
Multimodal Presentation Final Draft due December 10 at 11:59PM (5 points)
CONTENT & STRUCTURE
Because each project will be unique, it is difficult for me to give precise technical directions, which is why you will also send me a proposal before beginning work on your project. However, here are some guidelines for what I will be looking for:
Create a polished, substantial, and engaging multi-modal project that:
Can be accessed by instructors and peers
Draws on at least two of the five modes of communication:
Visual – typeface, lines, shapes, background, color, transitions, quality of images, visual  coherence, repetition, contrast
Audio – intonation of spoken words, sound effects, ambient noise, music, volume, silence,  transitions from different audio clips
Gestural – facial expressions, gestures, body language
Spatial – line spacing, navigation, transitions, size of page, size of photos, proximity of photos and other elements to each other, line length, visual salience, white space, visual organization, alignment
Linguistic – written text or spoken words/narration, word choice, delivery, organization of ideasSends a coherent message to an intended non-academic audience
Sends a coherent message to an intended non-academic audience
Reflects on your research process, mentioning any unexpected discoveries you made, insights you gained about yourself as a researcher, and traces the evolution of you thinking on your topic over the course of the semester.
FORMAT & GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Here is a non-exhaustive list of possible ideas for creating your multi-modal project. You can do anything, as long as your project is shareable on this Canvas course, draws on 2 modes of communication, and targets a specific non-academic audience!
Adobe Spark Glideshow–another Adobe product that allows you to add images, videos, text, etc. You have free access to as a U student to create an ad or PSA with strong visual features (the link to Adobe Creative Cloud is on the left menu–you will need to disable pop-up blockers) see:
How to make a GlideShow page on Adobe Spark (Links to an external site.)

Podcast–interview people whom your audience would find credible, reliable, and knowledgeable about the issue for a podcast (if you create a podcast, you will also need to create a “script” that includes images and text; see Someone Knows Something, ep. 1 (Links to an external site.)–you can see the links that podcasts use to help provide their listeners with additional information, like graphic elements, images, newspaper links, etc.)
Photo Essay–create a photo essay on the issue (you must take your own photos; if you choose this option, you must put them into Adobe Spark Glide and add words and sound, which could include narration or music, or both) (see Myanmar (Links to an external site.))
Video–(Use Adobe Video, Youtube, your smart phone, or any other video software that your can share without requiring your peers to ‘create an account’) create a short video (2-3 min.) using graphics, clips, images, voice over, interview,  on-site clips, text, etc.
Adobe or WordPress or another webpage–create a site with multiple pages that includes text, videos, images, graphs, etc. (see #Me Too (Links to an external site.))
Write/Illustrate a book: (this can be a narrative or poetry)(drawings must demonstrate quality in terms of visual appeal, there are words, color, is in book format–in Microsoft Word or Adobe’s InDesign you can create a booklet spread that mimics a book)
