1. Piaget’s Theory of Cognitive Development
Include a general summary of Piaget’s point of view regarding childhood intelligence
and then list his four stages of development, along with a brief explanation of each.
Summarize with a critique of his theory.
2. Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development
Explain Erikson’s suggestion that we face specific psychosocial dilemmas or “crises” at
each stage of development and how the resolution of these dilemma can lead to
healthy development—or vice versa. Briefly describe each of his 8 stages and a brief
critical summary of his theory.
3. Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development
Lawrence Kohlberg expanded on the earlier work of cognitive theorist Jean Piaget to
explain the moral development of children, which he believed follows a series of stages.
Kohlberg defined three levels of moral development: pre-conventional, conventional,
and post-conventional. Each level has two distinct stages. Describe these levels and
stages and critique his approach to explaining moral development.
