I believe there are plenty reasons we develop misunderstandings about diverse groups, one could be history it can be what the symbols that group uses but mostly its probably selective perception. perceptual vigilance will tell us that people recognize the diverse group and it may be significant to them, on the other hand perceptual defense tell us people create a barrier from being aware and I think perceptual defense is the reason for most of these misunderstandings. The media overrepresents people of color as poor, no fathers and criminals so we portray that. It is because the media but also because we hear it so many times we start to believe it. I think it plays a huge role in the justice system but I also believe right now in 2021 that the judges in the court system are at an age where they grew up being against people of color. The average age of a judge is 55 which puts them born in 1976 where racism was still high and blacks being not segregated was still fairly new also 8 years after MLK’s death. Which probably means alot of conventional wisdom was against people of color. The conventional wisdom given to the judges in today’s justice system play’s a role in it regardless of what the people of the juror recommends
