Research Paper Guidelines: Synopsis: Apply any of the major sociological perspectives discussed in Chapter 2 and create a thesis statement based on a topic of your choice. Whatever topic you choose, your paper must have a clear thesis statement. Do not summarize or simply “talk about” your topic. Create an “I believe” statement. EXAMPLE OF THESIS STATEMENT: “Divorce has several negative impacts on women in the . today.” Remember that your paper must be supported by research. In other words, do not just make a claim. Support your claim (thesis statement) with peer-reviewed academic sources. This means you cannot simply cite any website or article you found online. It must be from a peer-reviewed academic journal/book published in a university press. You will need to create an Annotated Bibliography with at least four (4) sources. NOTE: Remember that in Module 2 you will have a chance to confirm your topic/thesis statement with me so that I can ensure you are on the rig‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ht track. Paper Requirements: (Points will be deducted if your paper does not follow these guidelines.) ? Paper should be 7-10 full pages, double-spaced, 12-point font with 1” margins. ? You must cite after any ideas or statements that you did not come up with yourself (each paragraph should have at least one in-text citation). Make sure you are citing correctly and know how to do a proper Annotated Bibliography, according to your style format. I do not care which style format you use, but APA is typically used in the Social Sciences. ? At least four (4) academic sources. The more the better (.com, .org, or .edu sites will not count as a source). Good databases to use to find sources are Academic Search Complete, Jstor, ProQuest Central, and Sage.
