You know you can support with academic research ? This means you are to take a firm position on something (you are not simply summarizing or explaining a particular issue or topic). Your chosen perspective must be clearly woven throughout your research and presentation. ? Submit your thesis statement to the instructor by the end of Module 2. Your thesis statement should only be 1-2 sentences in length. Research Paper Guidelines: Synopsis: Apply any of the major sociological perspectives discussed in Chapter 2 and create a thesis statement based on a topic of your choice. Whatever topic you choose, your paper must have a clear thesis statement. Do not summarize or simply “talk about” your topic. Create an “I believe” statement. EXAMPLE OF THESIS STATEMENT: “Divorce has several negative impacts on women in the . today.” Remember that your paper must be supported by research. In other words, do not just make a claim. Support your claim (thesis statement) with peer-reviewed academic sources. This means you cannot simply cite any website or article you found online. It must be from a peer-reviewed academic journal/book published in a university press. You will need to create an Annotated Bibliography with at least four (4) sources. Sources are cited when specific statements are made. Chosen perspective is woven through the paper. 30 points Organization and Clarity of Writing: The research paper must have a clear introduction with a thesis, main body with major points, and a conclusion. Thesis statement is woven through paper. Writing is crisp, clear, and succinct. 15 points Conclusion: Summarizes key points, connects to introduction 5 points Citations/References: All needed citations were included in the report.
