Overview: For your assignment this week you should develop an informative reflection pertaining to the documentary After Newtown-The Path to Violence. This documentary pertains to some of the concepts and themes discussed in Chapter 4 and the accompanying lecture notes. I advise first reviewing the PowerPoint notes alongside reading the chapter, and then watch the video before developing your paper. This documentary is quite powerful, engaging (in my opinion), and very relevant to current issues in crime, criminal justice policy & programming. https://www.pbs.org/video/after-newtown-path-violence/ (Links to an external site.) Directions: Watch the documentary and then critically reflect on the material by writing two (2) double spaced pages on this video. In your reflection you should describe the impact that viewing the video has on you, and your thoughts on any interesting findings that are presented in the documentary. Somewhere in your paper you should integrate themes, concepts or statistics from the chapter and PowerPoint notes as well as information from at at least one external peer-reviewed source. You need an APA formatted cover and reference page (NOT included in the 2-page requirement). You must use APA formatted in-text citations when you reference the textbook and any other sources you use. You may go up to 3 double spaced pages, but no more. Keep in mind that while you are asked to explain your thoughts and opinions, please make sure that the majority of your thoughts and opinions are supported through the video, book and notes. It is perfectly fine to also include your emotional reaction and views, but you must indicate that. Notes: The title page, while required, is more of a formality to help you develop the habit of correctly formatting scholarly papers in APA style. Grading Criteria: Your video reflections will be graded on: organization and coherence, use of empirical evidence, clarity of writing, demonstration of integration of course concepts with video, effective use of external peer reviewed sources and in-text citations as needed, grammar/spelling and sentence structure, and page requirements.
