One of the social uses of literature in these days focuses on the use of books as a way to educate ourselves about past, present, and future issues in our society.<

A popular theme and issue in the past years has been to recommend and share reading lists to help understand and motivate particular needs for change in the discussions around important social issues, like race, in America.<

However, there’s some dangers in approaching important issues like this.<

To tackle this trend and the dangers, Linda Holmes, host of NPR’s “Pop Culture Happy Hour”, interviewed scholar and writer Prof. Lauren Michele Jackson on how she approached that for a piece she wrote for “Vulture” magazine.<
