Learning Goal: I’m working on a research & summaries report and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.Will be writing a 6-8 page, argument-based essay that responds to Naomi Klein’s work on climate change. The paper should be typed, double-spaced, in MLA format and include a Works Cited page.Think about the essay as an add-on chapter to Klein’s existing collection of essays:On:The Burning Case for a Green New Deal. The essay should include references to Klein as well as add a more localized, Los Angeles based perspective on the problem of climate change. The paper needs to do three things: CONTEXTUALIZE by discussing how your work relates to specific essays in Naomi Klein;
CRITICALLY ANALYZE how a particular environmental problem is being represented in the media;
PROFILE at least one way the problem is being addressed in your community by writing up the results of your interview
Your final paper should engage with ALL of the following source materials:1)Naomi Klein’s On:The Burning Case for a Green New Deal.Select 1-3 essays that inspire you from the collection and use these essays to frame/ contextualize your own essay.2)2-3 media representations of the problem you’re covering.Your paper should perform a critical analysis of the ways a particular aspect of the environmental problem is being represented to the public.Consider a variety of media sources that have covered the topic and evaluate the successes and/ or failures of these forms of representation. 3)A first-hand interview with a person who is taking climate action in your community.Detail who the person is, what they’re doing and how they’re contributing to addressing the problem on a local level.
