Give history of the disease or its discovery, an example of an individual with the disease/disorder, information about a case study, etc.) ~ 1 paragraph 2) [10 points] A description of the specific behavioral/cognitive symptoms of the disorder and how is the disorder diagnosed ~ 1-2 paragraphs 3) [10 points] A description how the disease impacts the daily life of the person who has it and those close to that person. ~ 1-2 paragraphs 4) [10 points] A description of the normal course of the disease (when symptoms first emerge (age or stage), how the disease progresses over time, what is the prognosis) ~ 1-2 paragraphs 5) [20 points] A description of the neurological aspects of the disorder (what areas of the brain, neurotransmitter systems, and/or pathways are involved; be as specific as possible). THIS SHOULD BE THE LARGEST SECTION OF THE PAPER ~ 4-5 paragraphs 6) [10 points] A description of the current treatment options (might include medical, surgical, therapeutic, or rehabilitation treatment), any significant side-effects, and how the treatment works ~ 1-2 paragraphs 7) [10 points] A description of the current research and/or cutting edge treatment possibilities related to this disorder (be specific, don’t just list research or treatments without explaining them) ~ 1-2 paragraphs 8) [5 points] A general conclusion based on what you have learned about the disorder and any new directions that you personally believe (based on what you have learned writing the p‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍aper) medical research and/or treatment should go in the future ~ 1 paragraph [10 points for overall presentation of the topic: How well the paper flows, how the various sections fit together, is the information clear and easy to understand, grammatical and spelling errors are at a minimum] I am not the target audience for the paper. You want to pitch the information to the average person so that they can understand. Therefore, make sure you define things for that reader that they may not know. [10 points for references, citing and referencing them correctly, meeting the page requirement] Each paper will be a minimum of 10 pages double-spaced (not including the reference section), typed and will include at least 2 academic journal article references (this does NOT include popular science/medical magazines or newspapers…these can be used a good starting points to find the actual published research though. If you have questions about whether a source is from an academic journal or not, please ask me.) and 1 web-based reference (examples include foundations established for the disease/disorder, medical/psychology sites, NOT Wikipedia). The remaining references can be any combination of academic journal articles, web-based references, or books. A minimum of 6 references must be used (this does NOT include the textbook or other two books for class, which you can also use as a reference). Make sure to give yourself enough time to find articles and websites, read them, and incorporate them into your paper. All citing and referencing should be in APA style.
