FIRST: Select a clip (at least 5 to 7 min) of someone being interviewed. Your clip could be a day time talk show host, a late night show host, or a news reporter or journalist. Include a link to your clip in your paper.
DESCRIBE: In Chapter 6, DeVito outlines the functions of active listening. In your own words, describe and summarize the functions of active listening in a few sentences.
RELATE: Consider your own experiences with listening. Do you or does someone you know ever send “solution messages” when attempting to communicate your understanding? How does this impact the communication? (1 page in length)
EVALUATE: Rate your chosen clip, based on the Yates’s “Checklist for Active Listening and Reflective Responses”. Include an example for each section. Were you surprised by your interviewer’s ratings? Why or why not? (1-2 pages in length)
