First Research paper This rubric is a little different from other rubrics due to the structure of the course. The final project of the course is the culmination of all of the assignments within this Research Paper SafeAssignment Rubric. The Non-Research Paper SafeAssignment Rubric describes other assignments not related to your final research paper. Final Project Due by: 11:59pm (EST) Sunday of Unit 7. Throughout the course, we will be building a mini-research study. Each unit you will be provided with information, and (based on that information) you will be asked to identify a new component of a (hypothetical) mini-research study. Your grade and feedback for each week will be based on the quality of the new component. For example, in Unit 2 you will create a hypothesis, IV, and DV based on a topic that the Instructor provides to you. When we discuss sampling in Unit 3, you will be provided with a new, related hypothesis, IV, and DV, and will be asked to create a sample based upon them. In Unit 4, you will be provided with a hypothesis, IV, DV, and a new, related sample, and you will be asked to operationalize your variables based on that information. Thus, we will explore – and have you identify – a new component for each unit until we have every component necessary for a research paper. By the end of the course, the components with which you have been provided are to be compiled into a completed research project and submitted by 11:59pm (EST) Sunday of Unit 7.The final paper should be 8 to 10 pages long, typed double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12pt font. Quality of writing will be extremely important. Use APA style, properly citing all sources in the text of the paper and in a separate reference list. For more information visit: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/05/. APA Style is only expected for the final research paper (EXCLUDING your references). There is a sample of what the format of your COMPLETED research paper will look like found in the Course Information tab of Blackboard. Please email your Instructor if you need any clarification. Students: Be sure to read the criteria, by which your paper/project will be evaluated, before you write, and again after you write. The requirements for your Mini-Research Paper are the following 6 components: I. Create a Hypothesis, Independent and Dependent Variable, and References: Due 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 2 II. Create a Sample: Due 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 3 III. Create Operationalizations: Due 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 4 IV. Create a Quantitative Procedure: Due 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 5 V. Run a t-Test: Due 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 6 VI. Submit your Completed Mini-Research Paper: Due 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 7 See the individual rubrics below, each on their own page. Within each rubric category, grammatical and spelling errors will result in point loss. I. Create a Hypothesis, Independent and Dependent Variable, and References: Due by 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 2 For this Assignment, you will be graded on the following, based on a topic provided by the Instructor. Your topic is: The effect of heat on aggression. Use the instructions below and follow the template provided on the next page to complete the assignment.. 1. Stating your ONE Independent and ONE Dependent Variable in the following format: a. “Independent Variable: ______” b. “Dependent Variable: _______” i. (This will be the same as the IV and DV you used in the first two components.) 3. Providing references (in APA style format) for three peer-reviewed, quantitative experimental articles. They must each be of a study that involves a hypothesis, independent and dependent variables, and a method section. The criteria for these three components will be as follows: CRITERIA Deficient (0 – 10 Points Each) Development Needed (11 – 20 Points Each) Proficient to Exemplary (21 – 25 Points Each) 1 Topic Does not follow the required format and/or is very unclear Follows the required format but is difficult to understand or lacks specificity Effective, clearly expressed choice of topic that follows required format 2 Hypothesis Unclear hypothesis that may lack required components (IV, DV, direction [increase or decrease]) Unclear hypothesis that may lack development or may be missing a required component, (i.e. variables, direction) Clearly written, insightful hypothesis contains all necessary components 3 Variables Variables (or prompt) are both incorrectly identified One variable (or prompt) may be incorrectly identified Both variables (and prompts) are accurate 4 References 2 or 3 are not APA style and/or are not peer-reviewed, quantitative, experiments 1 article is not APA style and/or are not peer-reviewed, quantitative, experiments All are APA style and are peer-reviewed, quantitative, experiments Grade: I. Submit your Completed Mini-Research Paper: Due 11:59pm (EST) Sunday, Unit 7 Your final Research Paper is a culmination of all of the information we have been providing to you each unit, plus a title page, literature review, discussion section, and reference page. This will be about 8-10 pages long (including title and references) and will resemble and follow the structure of a very brief but standard APA-Style research paper. It will look like a mixture between a research paper and an outline of a research paper. It will follow APA style. Please see the Research Paper Rubric in the Course Information page for specifics on how the completed paper, as well the Research Paper SafeAssignments will be graded. There will also be a sample research paper available in the Course Information page. For this Assignment, you will be graded on ten different components. 1. Compilation and organization of all new and previous information into the format of an APA-style research paper (that includes the Topic, Hypothesis, IV and DV, sample, operationalizations, procedure, and results provided to you), plus the following that you will create: a discussion, literature review, title page, and reference section. 2. Making sure your paper is written clearly, professionally, and in APA-style, including a title-page and reference page. Please proofread your paper and ensure that there are no typos. 3. Please include a literature review of three peer-reviewed articles from an online database that are relevant to your hypothesis. For each article, include the following in a single paragraph: a. Date b. Author c. Hypothesis d. Sample e. IV and DV f. How the IV and DV are operationalized g. Design (qualitative or quantit
