Choose from the 3 topic options:
Homelessness (could be focused on Springfield or combined with
COVID, poverty, drugs, lack of affordable housing, health and mental
health care costs, college costs, or unemployment),
Crime (could be focused on Springfield, school violence, drugs, gun
violence, or COVID effects), or
Economy (could be focused on COVID effects, inflation, financial
literacy, small business aid, employee shortages/mask mandates,
unemployment, income gap, or US debt)
and compose a 6 page research paper. Paper and topic should be
argumentative (controversial/debatable). Keep in mind things learned in
ENG-101 this semester, including:
● Title
● Introduction with hook and thesis statement
● Body paragraphs with topic sentences and transitions
● Conclusion
Paper Requirements:
● The focus/thesis should be where you stand on the issue, but you also
need to address the opposition – either in 1 paragraph, or woven
throughout your argument
● MLA format (see guidelines in syllabus)
● 5-7 sources (at least 2-3 from library databases)
● Works Cited Page (not included in page count)
Due Dates:
Introduction and outline – 10pm Wednesday, 12/15
Final paper due – 3pm Thursday, 12/23
