Course: Builders and contractors
Quantity Surveying is a profession that is increasing in recognition and application within the Construction Industry in North America (this profession has had a strong presence in Europe for decades). The Quantity Surveyor, typically referred to as an Estimator, is an integral member of the constructor bidding and costing team and is usually the lead proponent.
The purpose of this Assignment will be to complete a materials quantity takeoff for a small office/industrial building (shown below) and then to extrapolate the overall budget cost for the building. The cost should include the ‘hard’ construction costs (materials and labour) as well as contingencies, overhead, and profit.
The format will be on an excel spreadsheet. Material quantities will be sectioned as per the Master Format layout. Costing (materials and labour combined unit rates) can be taken from BAD WEBSITE LINK DELETED or the “Yardsticks for Costing”
Presentation requirements include:
Text and calculations to support the quantity entries into the spreadsheet.
Completed spreadsheet printout.
Graphic images to support the text and calculations such as freehand sketches and CAD drawings.
Students will work individually to complete the above requirements.
Presentation will be a standard format letter/ledger printed page
Evaluation:
1. Completeness
2. Consistency
3. Text content
4. Graphic presentation: Sketching, CAD
