4. Citations and References to Native Son and/or The Man Who Lived Underground
5. Works Cited Page
6. Page count (7 – 10 pages) does not include Sentence Outline and Works Cited Pages

Topic – In my report I will be discussing how symbolism in the novel native son is one of the essential
themes used to show character development. For example, The rat symbolizes many things such
a greed, inner thoughts, and disaster. The rat in the “Native Son” fits all three. It shows who
Bigger really is, a man who is lost in a battle between societies, the poor black society and the
rich white society.
