“Choose one current planetary mission that is studying a planet, moon, or other body in our solar system. What is the significance of this mission and how does it add to its parent organization’s overall solar system exploration goals?” Note: to be considered “current” in this assignment, the missions should have launched no later than 2000; planned missions that will launch within the next 5 years are also acceptable. You must post your choice of mission in the Week 3 Topic Choice Forum. Each student must choose a different mission for their paper. Make sure to post early to get your first choice! Many students focus on NASA missions and you are strongly encouraged to research missions lead by other space agencies like the European Space Agency (ESA), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and others. Your paper should be written for a knowledgeable and scientific audience, not a general audience. Please make your outline as complete as possible. The attached outline is a guide for what your detailed outline should look like. The more detailed your outline is, the better the feedback I’ll be able to give. However, it must remain an outline. Any full written drafts of the final paper will be returned and full paragraphs will not be read. Your outline needs to include at least 3 scholarly sources that you intend to use in your paper. Scholarly sources include peer reviewed journal articles, mission reports, and other academic sources. News articles and general webpages can be used to supplement your scholarly sources, but should not be your main references for this assignment. The reference list does not have to be complete at this point, however it should reflect the level of research you are pursuing for the paper.
