Choose a topic from the period 1865-1900 in U.S. history that you want to learn more about.
Find two journal articles or books (outside sources, not ones previously assigned) that offer
different interpretations of that topic. How do the two interpretations compare? Do they come to
different conclusions or give different emphases? Why? Or, do they explore different aspects of
the topic, such that the two perspectives can be reconciled and synthesized? You should both
summarize each author’s main points and evaluate their interpretations comparatively.
