Below are the exact directions I have been given for this assignment. An annotated bibliography using five source (which I have provided) and a brief one-two page synthesis of gathered information on the topic of Domestic Violence and Mental Health/ Trauma (women).
This assignment asks that you locate five sources related to an assigned field of practice determined the second week of class. You will work independently to locate appropriate literature that will be used as the foundation of the bibliography and your subsequent group presentations. You will prepare an annotated bibliography with a minimum of five sources (at least one book, one journal article, an one online resource) focused on a field of practice and relevant issue (see week two, above) and a one-two page synthesis of the information gathered on the topic as the summary that is followed by the annotations of each source. You do not have to complete a comprehensive review on the topic as this stage of your learning, but you should have a brief sampling of key professional literature on it.
Try to find articles that cluster around a topic within a field of practice (school-based practice, mental health, veterans etc.,) and relevant practice issue (e.g. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for Veterans). For example, if you are looking at mental health and substance abuse you could look at current issues relating to mindfulness in practice with this population of concern.
Or you could choose to look at the use of a particular community intervention (e.g. transitional housing) within this population.
You could also examine state or federal policy responses that impact people with a mental illness and social work’s position in enacting the policy (see for example look at social work’s advocacy role in establishing a policy).
Summarize and assess: Briefly summarize each source (see above videos). What are the main points? What is the purpose of the article/book chapter/resource?
2. Reflect and synthesize: Once you have summarized and assessed your five sources write a one page synthesis that organizes what you have learned about the field of practice. How do these sources fit together? What do they differ on? How can these sources be used to develop your group presentation? How have these sources changed your thinking about the field of practice? What is still not known about this field for you? What can you do to try and answer this unknown?
