Assignments 1, 2, and 4 provided you with the opportunity to develop the building blocks of your research paper, as well as receive feedback on these components. This places you in an excellent position to write up your full research paper, which is assignment 5. For the research paper, you will write a draft journal article that demonstrates your understanding and ability to engage in ethical analysis in relation to global health policy and practice. The journal article will be something suitable, for example, as an analysis piece for the Lancet or BMJ Global Health. You should use the research question that has been the focus of your previous assignments, but you are allowed to change your research question from what you previously worked on – but you do so at your own risk. Word Limit: 4000 words (including citations and footnotes). Assessment Weight: This assignment is worth 40% of your course grade. Marking Criteria: You will be graded on: (1) identification of issues and relevance, including identifying normative issues in a clear and precise way and the global health relevance of your topic; (2) demonstration of detailed and accurate knowledge and understanding, including appropriate definitions of normative/conceptual terms, selection of appropriate ethical literature, and identification, explanation, and application of an appropriate ethical tool (e.g., concept, value, theory, framework); (3) critical engagement and quality of the argument and normative analysis, including arguments supported by appropriate reference to sources, with clear evidence of direct study of primary sources, the ability to tackle complex arguments raised by the materials identified during the course, with evidence of independent study, and demonstration of sophistication and insight into points made; and (4) presentation, including organized structure, clarity and persuasiveness of expression, no grammar and spelling errors, and compliance with referencing conventions.
