Each student will submit a summary and
a reflection of Wilda Gafney’s book Womanist
Midrash: A Reintroduction to the Women of the Torah and the Throne. Please
only focus on Part 1 (the sections pertaining to the Torah). In this paper you must
first define midrash and womanism. Include a summary of Gafney’s
midrash on TWO characters from each of the FIVE books of the Torah (10
characters/groups of characters total) and then please prepare a reflection about
how this approach to scripture impacts the way you read the bible. Each student
will also contribute their own midrash on a character in the Torah that Gafney
did not write about. The paper should be 8-10 pages (approx. 2200 words). Please
