In Discussion Forum 2, you searched for articles related to a specific topic. Hopefully, after refining your search techniques, you ended up finding some interesting articles. Choose two articles and evaluate them using the criteria listed under “Evaluating Resources in Practice” (currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose) in the chapter “Evaluate: Assessing your Research Process and Findings.” After evaluating both articles, compare your results. Would both articles be suitable for use in a research paper about your specific topic? Is one article more helpful than the other in terms of currency, relevance, authority, accuracy, and purpose for your topic? Explain. Your paper should be 500 to 1000 words in length (2 to 4 pages). Provide citation information for both articles. You will do a deeper dive into citations in the next module, but for now be sure to include any important information (title, author(s), publication date, publication name, and a link if possible) so that your mentor can locate the articles.

Freedom Haikus Assignment Submission Folder Chapter 4 and Chapter 16 discuss various types of poetry as well as several theories about freedom. For this assignment, you will be writing two Haiku poems (described below) from two different philosophical perspectives on freedom. Your submission should demonstrate that you: Understand the different freedom theories listed below Know the basic requirements for a haiku and how to write one What is a Haiku? Review the Literature PowerPoint for a brief description and section 4.3 Poetry of Chapter 4 in the textbook for a more detailed explanation of a haiku. Haikus are short, three-lined poems that can (but do not have to) rhyme. They have a 5-7-5 syllable scheme; the first and last lines have five syllables each and the middle line has seven syllables. Though haikus were originally developed in Japan, they are now written by authors originating from all over the world and about all sorts of subjects. Poets (and students) often find them challenging in an enjoyable way, as they provide an opportunity to exercise your mind to attempt to convey a desired message in limited space. Below are some examples of haikus. Note the syllable counts and the fact that they do not rhyme. An old silent pond… A frog jumps into the pond, splash! Silence again. –Basho Matsuo Haikus are easy But sometimes they don’t make sense Refrigerator –Author Unknown Guidelines Review the different freedom theories listed below in the Freedom PowerPoint and/or in Chapter 16 of the textbook. Choose two theories you will use as a basis for your haikus. Behaviorism Economic Determinism Institutional Determinism Genetic Determinism Indeterminism Religious Existentialism Secular (non-religious) Existentialism Write two haikus (one for each of your chosen theories from the list above). Think about the theory you chose and write a haiku that is about the meaning of that theory. Do this for both of your chosen theories for a total of two haikus to turn in. Keep the points below in mind while writing your haikus: Reading your haikus, it should be clear which theories they are about. In your assignment, list the two theories you chose so that I know which ones you decided to use as a topic. Make sure you are using your space efficiently and adhering to the syllabic limitations of each line. Your poems can—but do not have to—rhyme. Unlike the second example above, they should make sense. The topic (freedom theory) and message should be clear. The message of your haiku does not have to be the literal definition of the theory; in fact, I would prefer it if you would not simply restate the definition in haiku format. Instead, I would like you to tell a (very) short story or make a brief statement about your chosen theories. If you have any questions about what I mean by this, email or course message me. I encourage you to look over the Plagiarism statement found in the Unit 1 folder. If you are found to have plagiarized, I will be forced to turn you into the school and you will automatically get a zero for this assignment. I am not grading you on your poetic abilities and genuinely want to see what your creativity and critical thinking comes up with—plagiarism is not worth the trouble, trust me. Be creative! Read over your two haikus. Are the two theories you chose clear? Do they adhere to the line and syllable formatting of a haiku? Review them for any typos. You can use incomplete sentences, but your poems should contain correct spelling. Turn them in through this submission folder. In your assignment, include your name, the two freedom theories you chose, and your two haikus. Use a Word or PDF document when submitting your finished poems to ensure the structure does not change after uploading to the submission folder.

This week we are learning about ordinal/categorical, continuous, and dichotomous variables. Using the Gestation Demographics SEU dataset that is located in the tabs at the bottom of the Framingham dataset provided, perform the following problems using R Studio or Excel. Create a simple distribution graph (histogram) where we will explore the age of women after giving birth to their first child. Remember that a histogram consists of parallel vertical bars that show the frequency distribution of a quantitative variable in the graph. See the example in Introductory Statistics with R on pages 71-7 or pages 123-124 in EXCEL statistics A quick guide. The area of each bar is equal to the frequency of items found in each class. Determine the mean age of the women in the Gestation Demographics SEU dataset. We will be testing the hypothesis that the mean age (μ = μ0) for women is 37 years in the Gestation Demographics SEU dataset. The topic of hypothesis testing was introduced in HCM505. If you need a review see Chapter 7 of our text. H0 The mean age of women giving birth is 37 years old. (Null Hypothesis) H1 The mean age of women giving birth is not 37 years old. (Alternative Hypothesis) Ensure to submit the following requirements for the assignment: Present your findings in a Word document, by copying and pasting the histogram into the document. After your analysis state whether you accept or reject the null hypothesis and your reasoning why. Always use a title page, an introduction, a discussion where you interpret the meaning of the histogram, and a conclusion should be included. Your submission should be 2–3 pages to discuss and display your findings. Provide support for your statements with in-text citations from a minimum of two scholarly, peer-reviewed articles. One of these sources may be from the class readings, textbook, or lectures, but the others must be external. The Saudi Digital Library is a good place to find these sources and should be your primary resource for conducting research. Follow APA 7th edition and Saudi Electronic University writing standards. Review the grading rubric to see how you will be graded for this assignment. You are strongly encouraged to submit all assignments to the Originality Check prior to submitting them to your instructor for grading.

In at least 250 words, discuss the poets we have read for this unit. First, choose a selection from one of the poems and quote that at the beginning of your post. Make sure that everyone knows what poem and author you are talking about. You may quote one line or an entire poem. (Just note that this quote does not count toward your word count.) This quote will provide the basis for your discussion. It gives your classmates context to your discussion and aids them in ease of understanding what you are basing your argument on. Then, make an argument about that selection. You can talk about its relevance to the material you learned about American Romanticism, or you can propose something about what the author’s intentions are in writing the poem. What effect does the methods the author deploy create in the poem? What do we learn about American Literature from the poems? The important thing is that you make an argument and back it up with evidence from the text. Remember, we are close reading during this semester. Demonstrate your ability to close read. I know this is last minute! People ask the same Big Questions over and over again. These questions are themselves permanent things, and when we read what people have said in response to these questions over time, we are joining the Great Conversation that is literature. Among the big questions we have encountered are: “What is the relationship between man and God?” “What is the relationship between the individual and the society?” “Why does the individual person matter?” Choose one of these questions and trace its development from Enlightenment to Modern literature, using at least four of our course writers as examples. Conclude by offering your readers a biblical response to the question. Requirements: Minimum of 1000 words; APA format

Prompt: We have been discussing the theme of the fragmentation of modern society, especially as such fragmentation points to the fragmented self in modern life. The ancient book of Proverbs presents us with an unfragmented view of life, one in which the wisdom of the Creator shines forth in every rock and tree and budding flower. Yet, it is the fragmented view of life which, tragically, the modern world has taken to itself. Read Proverbs, chapter 1, in the New Living Translation (Belhaven’s official translation for coursework) and in approximately 700 words, identify and discuss five characteristics that mark a culture opposed to the world that God intended. Then, close by describing how different our own culture would be if it chose the unfragmented world of biblical wisdom. [Note: In Proverbs, chapter 1, it is personified wisdom who is speaking, not the Creator himself; it is important to note this, as God does not laugh at our calamities or fail to respond when we call out in distress.]

Consider the worldview question “what is the meaning of the physical world?” Using specific textual examples, explain how three of our writers would answer that question. Conclude by describing a biblical answer to the question of nature’s meaning. Requirements: 700 words minimum; APA format
