Learning Goal: I’m working on a psychology question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.Sound and Fury Video Questions for Reflection1. “I always wanted my daughter to be deaf.” This is a direct quote from Heather’s dad. Do you think his viewpoint/wish is selfish? Why or why not?How should deaf parents handle their deaf children when their children want to speak and hear?
Is there a difference between seeing yourself as a deaf person or a hearing person? What is the difference?
Are parents taking away their child’s identity by not allowing their child to hear? Or by allowing their child to hear?
If the parents are deaf and their child is deaf, would helping their child to hear disrupt their ability to remain a unified, integrated, whole family? Or would the cultural differences divide the family? Is it important for all family members to hear or not hear in order to function as a healthy family?
Since Heather has been part of the deaf culture for so many years (since birth), do you think it would dramatically change her life, outlook, personality, relationships…if she suddenly is able to hear now?
Do hearing people think differently from deaf people?
