You can probably imagine how often parents bring a child into counseling and expect the social work professional to “fix” their child. How can you respond when parent(s) are resistant to your suggestion that the family plays an important role in resolving child behavioral and emotional issues?
In this Discussion, you think about how you would engage parents in a family approach, especially with parents who are resistant to your efforts.
1. A description of how you would explain the importance of involving the family in a child’s treatment.
2. Identify at least two strategies for how you, as a social worker, can effectively involve resistant parents in services for their children.
