Initial Post

Choose an article of clothing or pair of shoes from your wardrobe (not denim or sneakers) that you know the purchase price and can estimate the number of times you have worn to date.  Write and post your analysis of the real cost of the item.  Real costs include the externalities experienced by the environment and stakeholders (Robertson, 2021).

Use the following to guide your analysis:

Describe the item and identify the brand name.  Identify the textile/fiber content, and trace the textiles used in the item’s construction.

  • Calculate the cost per wear from the time of purchase and the next 6 months. Formula: ($ Retail Price Paid / # Wears) = $Cost per Wear
  • Identify sustainability issues/opportunities with respect to material and item design, production, distribution, consumption and disposal.
