Assignment

This will be the first week that you submit an annotated bibliography for the case.  You will select a specific concern related to wind energy (i.e., bird strikes, EMF generation, disruption of marine life, directional drilling, etc.).  From there you will look for articles using Google Scholar and the library databases and research guides available through the VWU Hofheimer Library.  

Your annotated bibliography will select at least 5 closely related articles.  You will provide the proper bibliographic format in APA style for each, and will give a 5+ sentence summary of each article.  Your annotation should concisely summarize the research article and provide a brief evaluation of that source.  This approach will be the most helpful to you as you conduct library research in the future.  

At the end, you will write at least 1-2 paragraphs evaluating that case and making a recommendation based on the articles you found.  Based on the sources you have found, is this potential environmental concern something that should be addressed?  Based on the evidence provided in these papers, how should we address that particular issue?  For example, if you chose to focus on bird strikes by wind power – based on your article, are bird strikes a concern or not?  What things are power companies doing to address these concerns?  If you chose to focus on EMF generation by power cables, are these a concern to human health or marine organisms?  Why or why not?  What should be done (if anything) to address this? 

The annotated bibliography will be at least 2-3 pages in total (typed, double spaced, Times New Roman font or some other standard font), but may be longer, based on the kinds of resources that you find. 

Submission of your graded assignment is due by 11:59pm Eastern time on Sunday of Week 2. Assignments should be created and submitted as an attachment in one of the following forms: (MS Word, rich text format (.rtf), .PDF) as LastnameFirstName_Course Code_Lesson#_AssignmentTitle

Briefly describe one of the possible environmental concerns with the Kitty Hawk Wind project, and why you selected this potential problem to focus on.  In your response, indicate whether you think this particular environmental issue (i.e., Directional Drilling or EMF generation) is a major concern, a minor concern, or something that really does not need to be addressed.  Indicate what (if anything) should be done to mitigate this potential concern.  Finally, evaluate the magnitude of this potential concern, compared to the advantages of wind power.  Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? 

Your initial post should be at least 300-500 words in length, and should cite several specific details from the assigned readings and videos.
