Introduction. This is your chance to explore a topic that’s of interest to you in a systematic, scholarly, and practical manner. This assignment also serves to achieve our course goals in that it will help (and require) you to:
Compose an ethical framework for use in determining ethical courses of action
Discuss theoretical postulates of dialectical ethical and moral education as represented by classical and contemporary theorists
Describe the United States view of ethics and morality as it relates to criminal behavior and criminal sanctions
Identify behaviors of criminal justice roles, which create ethical dilemmas for criminal justice personnel
2. Overview. In this project, you will select a topic involving ethics in criminal justice that is interesting and meaningful to you. As noted in the course syllabus, this project must be original for this class and must not be recycled from a paper or papers from other classes. If it is determined that the research paper is not original for the class, you will receive a grade of zero for the assignment.
3. Specific Guidance: The details regarding your research paper are as follows—
All papers must be typed, using a 12-point font and double-spaced
APA format must be used
Papers will be between 18-22 pages long
Papers will include a title page, abstract, introduction, literature review, discussion, conclusion, and references page
Papers must include a minimum of 10 diverse sources, cited in proper APA format
Sources must be from scholarly journals, books, or other qualified publications
Clearly state a research question regarding a contemporary ethical issue related to criminal justice
Identify the history and causes of the ethical challenge; identify possible solutions and challenges
Thoroughly explain and apply at least two well-recognized ethical approaches to the research question
Papers must reflect correct grammar, spelling and punctuation
