This week, I am “doing something different” and have you reflect on this class using a MACRO level perspective. We need to assess our college wide diversity outcomes/student learning outcomes listed in our syllabus. I want to make this fun and easy for you to do and give you an opportunity to “apply” what we have learned over the semester.
Instructions: Write a short (approximately one (1) page letter to someone to tell them how gender has changed over time. You will focus on answer the two questions below (A-B). This letter can be to a friend, a co-worker, a boss, an elected official, etc. Be sure to write this in letter format, answer A-B creatively, and conclude by stating what this means for us as a society moving forward and/or what they should do with this information/how to apply it/use it.
This is solely your opinion and you really cannot answer any of these “incorrectly”. Think back to our Ferguson readings as well as Gloria’s book. When responding to questions A-B, think of underrepresented groups that we have discussed this semester. Examples could include any subordinate/minority group(s)that we have read about, such as: females, members of LGBTQ+ groups, felons, members of racial or ethnic groups, members of particular nationality groups, or members of lower social class groups, etc. You must cite (at least once) and list your references. However, you can do so sparingly as it will also be your opinion.
Answer BOTH of the following questions (A-B) in your letter.
A) In your own words/letter, can you state 1-2 contributions of one or more underrepresented groups in the development of the United States as it pertains to gender?
B) In your own words/letter, can you describe how cultural, historical, social, economic, and/or political factors shape aspects of one or more diverse groups as it pertains to gender?
