The essay topic that I chose was Billie Holiday and Abel Meeropol’s song Strange Fruit and the impact that it had on 1940s America. My thesis statement for this essay is, White 1940s America was not ready to have a conversation about racism and lynching, but it can be changed/altered if need be. The objectives of the final essay are to improve your abilities to defend a simple thesis effectively in accurate written English. To achieve this, you have to write an argumentative essay on a key event or person that influenced the development of Western Civilization. Therefore, you have to come up with a debatable research question and you have to persuade your reader(s) that you answered that question convincingly by having a thesis and two or three arguments to defend it. Your Research Assignment should include all the sources that you will need to attain the aforementioned objectives. Make sure to use a primary source and at least two scholarly sources (scholarly articles or books).
