Portfolio: Quality costs
Consider the process/product your data set represents. Describe the costs associated with the quality issues the data might be revealing. Give the costs actual dollar values so you can compare them (another big opportunity for you to be creative!).
Organize the issues into the four cost categories: prevention, appraisal, failure and intangible.
Summarize by making some type of plot to compare the amount you are spending in each of the four cost categories, and discuss whether you are spending too much or too little on prevention and appraisal costs. How much could you save if you increased or decreased those? How much do you think the failure and intangible costs would go up or down?
Information about my what I’m trying to do:
My dataset is the bike count in New York City.
My process is about re-timing traffic lights to suit cyclists in New York. There are many problems of this process that needs to be addressed. The team also wants to provide data that helps planners make infrastructure more, bike able, and basically more responsive to people.
To define our problem, we created a pareto chart to show how many instances of each problem occur that causes our inaccurate and inconsistent data. Then, we rank them with their frequency. We found out that the major cause of inaccurate and inconsistent count data in our process is the poor automation/not counting properly. If our bike counters are working properly, we won’t have a huge discrepancy in our process and we can better track the number of bikes in our city.
