DEI

For this project, you will create a Microsoft® PowerPoint® presentation in which you research Diversity Equity and Inclusion in government organizations. You are asked to consider a federal, state and local agency. You will specify how you would implement a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion program within your organization.

For a list of federal agencies, go to:

A-Z Index of U.S. Government Departments and Agencies: USA.gov. Retrieved from http://www.usa.gov/directory/federal/index.shtml

You should be able to do a simple internet search to find state or local agencies. For example, the search terms “Michigan environment” will return the website of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (https://www.michigan.gov/dnr).

To find local agencies, you may want to start at the locality’s website and choose an agency from there. For example, you could find the Department of Parks & Recreation for the city of Lansing, MI, by going to the city website (http://www.lansingmi.gov) and searching the listing of departments. Remember, most government websites will end with a .gov or .org suffix.

In your PowerPoint presentation, you will graphically describe the steps you would take to implement DEI within the structure of each organization; explain how your steps will respect each element of DEI within the Public organization.

  • Analyze the roles of these agencies within their political systems and how DEI may be implemented to support the DEI processes of these public organizations.
  • Provide three or more examples of how you see DEI facilitating positive roles within the organizations’ administrative and managerial processes.
  • Research a current DEI related issue to highlight the proposed agency actions.
  • Analyze and contrast the performance of a Manager that respects DEI
  • Highlight why DEI is important to the agency, for implementation, etc.).
  • Report on the current stage/status of DEI within the organization.
  • Propose proper steps that each agency should take.
  • Be sure to consult and cite at least six credible resources, not including the course textbook.
  • Your presentation should be at least nine slides with at least three slides per organization section. Slides should include the name of the organization, a description of the responsibility of the organization (what services they provide to the public), and the reason DEI is important to the organization.

  • Length should be at least nine slides, not including the title slide and references slide.
  • Speaker notes should be included in paragraph form for all slides except the title slide and reference slide. For assistance with PowerPoint presentations, see the Writing Center resource page
  • Include a cover page and references page in 10–12 point font (Arial, Courier, and Times New Roman are acceptable)
  • Viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained
  • Assignment should follow the conventions of Standard English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.)
  • Writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful
  • Your work should display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics
  • Appropriate citation style should be followed

You should also make sure to:

  • Include a title page with full name, class name, section number, and date
  • Include an introductory and concluding paragraph and demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English
  • Use examples to support your discussion
  • A minimum of six to ten references should be included to support your writing
