Unit 2 Journal

To prepare for this Journal. follow steps 1 and 2, then write a one-paragraph reflection on the importance of aesthetics – values relating to nature and the appreciation of beauty – in the early childhood classroom. The paragraph should be roughly 150 words.

1) Read Chapter 2 in your eBook, and then watch this video from the Early Learning Center: Dr. Sandra Duncan: “How to Design Inspiring Early Learning Spaces”.  

2)  Watch this video to hear Design Consultant Dr. Duncan explain the importance of aesthetics in the early childhood classroom.

3) Write your response in your journal regarding the importance of aesthetics in early childhood environments. You may elaborate on one or more of the following questions or respond to anything you read and learned from watching the video.

• Why should Aesthetics be incorporated into early childhood development?
• What is the value of helping young children see the connection and importance of music, visual arts, and pretend play in their education?
• What are some ways to create beauty and harmony in spaces for children?
• What are some memories of environments that you experienced as a child or environments that you created or would like to create for children?
