COLLAPSE

  Greetings Everyone,

More women than ever were entering volunteer and paid positions during World War 2. Japanese Americans were rounded up and placed into Internment Camps. in compliance with Executive Order 9066. They were only able to take with them what they could carry. Many Japanese Americans lost their homes, farms, and businesses when released. Although many Japanese American men decided to join the United States military fighting alongside 1.2 million African American, and became highly decorated soldiers. Even though only 35% of Americans thought they should be able to return after the war.

COLLAPSE

Some of the impacts the war had on the Japanese Americans were that they were rounded up due to Executive Order 9066 given by President Roosevelt. This order is a very controversial point in U.S. History; everyone knows about the concentration camps in Germany; however, that’s essentially what Executive Order 9066 produced in America. “Nearly 63 percent of these Japanese Americans were American-born U.S. citizens.”(2009). Some social impacts included discrimination toward Japanese Americans and separating families throughout the camps. Some of the economic effects included many businesses closed, homes being lost, and, due to the loss of population, other impacts to the local economy. It wouldn’t be until “February 19, 1976, decades after the war, Gerald Ford signed an order prohibiting the executive branch from re-instituting the notorious and tragic World War II order.”(2023).
