The professional school counselor needs to be prepared to handle a myriad of issues students potentially present during individual or group sessions. Having the knowledge of legal and ethical issues that may arise is important when dealing with these situations, as immediate referrals, consultation, and/or collaboration services may be necessary.

For this assignment, imagine a student you are meeting with tells you she has a plan to commit suicide.
