What’s the Problem essay 
Write a 500-word research paper in which you identify and provide support for two contributing factors/reasons for a socially relevant and important problem. Please carefully read the definitions we are using in this class for problems and issues (below).
Important: This is not simply an opinion paper. This essay is intended to begin the process of using research in your writing – an academic skill.  Avoid completely unsupported opinion and claims including personal preference and anecdote. This essay is situated firmly inside the domain of the scientific model (meaning that you need support for your claims). Do not mistake this for a 500-word rant or opinion-piece. It is not, and you will fail the assignment if you submit such. You must apply evidence to support your thoughts. And don’t worry. I will take you through the steps to achieve this.

Problem or Issue
Problem:  A problem is something that the vast majority of people agree needs a solution.
Example: Death from starvation is a problem since the vast majority agree on the need to solve it.
Issue: An issue is something that has numerous varying viewpoints causing people to disagree.
Example: Abortion is an issue since there is a wide range of possible responses.
