This is what I discussed in the Live Webinar:
I wanted to give you insight as to what we are expecting to see when we are grading this assignment and help you avoid adding irrelevant information and earn the most points for your work.
The instructions begin with you adding your comments to the notes section of each slide. So, on the slide there will be bulleted content (use the 6X6 rule) and the essay portion of the presentation will be in the notes section.
You should have 12-19 slides not including the Title, and reference slides. What you see on the slide are examples of titles for the slides. You don’t have to use these; they are just my examples.
Please always follow the Rubric.
Introduction slide
Your purpose statement will begin with, “The purpose of this presentation is… Your intro should Outline what will be discussed within the presentation in bulleted items. You are introducing the reader to the content. I should have good idea about what you’re about to present to me from your introduction.
Ethical Patient Care in an ICU setting (discussion)
Identify the ethical principles and concepts
Why do these principles and concepts matter to this patient population?
What does the literature say? Compare and contrast the perspectives within those works
Then you are going to synthesize all the information you’ve gathered from the literature and present your original thoughts. Do you agree or disagree? Explain why?
Decision-making model
Apply the SFNO model. Stakeholders, Facts, Norms, Options. How does applying the components of this model work to assist you in making ethically sound decisions for critically-ill patients?
Take each component and dissect it to reveal how they assist you in making ethically sound decisions for critically-ill patients.
Ethical and Legal Concerns at the End of Life
Describe and discuss (Do more research. Why is it a concern? Gather ideas from sources and discuss ways these concerns can be addressed.
End-of-life Concepts
Discuss palliative care (What is it? when is it indicated?)
Communication and conflict resolution (Who should you be communicating with; what types of communication are important during EOL) what are some Conflict Resolution strategies?
Withholding or withdrawing therapy (What does this mean, when is it indicated, who is involved in the decision-making)
Psychological support of the patient, family members and healthcare providers (discuss means to support the mental health of all stakeholders)
Cultural Considerations
Discuss why the nurse should consider the patient’s culture during EOL care; why is the patient’s culture important?
Discuss various collaborations that need to occur for culturally congruent care during EOL.
Reflection
Talk about your own perceptions. Talk about your biases. In your reflection you are given the latitude to express yourself regarding the subject.
Conclusion
This is a summation of the entire presentation
