Workshop/seminars will utilise current practice experience in the context of a range of social work theoretical approaches in support of the concurrent practice placement. Teaching, learning and assessment strategies will reflect the module ethos, that is, to promote participatory and experiential learning. Topic presentations (lecture style) will introduce students to the context and principles of leadership. Visiting speakers will be invited according to knowledge and expertise. Student-focused activities, in groups and independently, will encourage critical thinking regarding organisations, management and change and will provide the opportunity for students to develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities at both an individual and collective level. Autonomy in learning development will be expected; students will undertake a wide degree of self-directed learning in addition to making use of the texts and materials identified within each session of the module. The use of the internet will be encouraged as a central feature of current information sources. Students will be encouraged to use the Virtual Learning Environment (Blackboard): lecture notes, topic resources and interactive learning tools found therein will aid independent learning.
