Your PowerPoint should Include the hypothetical scenario you originally shared in the Discussion Forum. Include your examination of the data that you could use, how the data might be accessed/collected, and what knowledge might be derived from that data. Be sure to incorporate feedback received from your colleagues’ responses. (Discussion forum that I previously used was: Hypothetically, in the prison system for the State of Ohio, a nurse could collect data on the number of inmates that has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus since being incarcerated into the prison system. Then, the nurse would look at the sending county jails from which the positive inmates were sent, and the nurse would keep a record of all the different counties in which the positive cases were received from. This would tell the management, which areas of the state where more susceptible to receiving a possible COVID positive inmate. Nurses constantly are collecting data (Sole, Tablert, Bennett, Middleton, Deaton, & Penoyer, 2018). Hawks, et al (2020) states that prisons and jails are already overcrowded. The data used was a laboratory confirmed Covid -19 virus detection via PCR testing done at via nasal swabbing done by the nurse at the time of intake reception when the inmate arrived at the prison. The nasal swabs are submitted to the laboratory via normal lab procedures and the results are faxed back to the prison on a confidential fax machine at the nurses’ station, as well as, automatically uploaded directly into the electronic medical record system. Anyone will access to the electronic medical record system can see the lab results. A nurse manager would use their knowledge of the counties with the most covid positive inmates being transferred and quarantine those inmates away from the rest of the general population until they are no longer a threat of spreading the covid-19 virus to the rest of the prison population at that time. This provides the greatest safety protection for the greatest amount of people. Ultimately, creating a safe prison camp during the pandemic. Dealing with a pandemic is stressful for everyone involved. The Nurses should be supporting a therapeutic listening environment for the inmates (Karaaslan & Aslan, 2019).
