Instructions: Counselling Role-Play Scenario You are working as a student counsellor at student support services on campus. A student comes to counselling as they are experiencing increased feelings of stress, and is overwhelmed and weighed down by their college and life commitments. They are particularly concerned about their negative thoughts and attitudes at College and home and would like to change this. There are two parts to this assessment: 1. Invite someone (preferably a classmate) to play the role of a student, with you as their counsellor. Record your role-play using a camera, cell phone or digitally using the Skype record function. Your recording should be a 10-15-minute video, demonstrating your current skills being a ‘counsellor’. All audio and video files must be uploaded/created via Voicethread on MySACAP. Please view this video on how this should be done. Now get a shareable link that must be submitted via the assessment submissions link on MySACAP for your educator to access. 2. Write a reflective essay based on your role-play recording, and reflect on the following: ? The overall importance of communicating effectively in the counselling process; ? Identify and briefly describe the micro-skills you have used as the counsellor in the role play recording; ? Reflect on your strengths and weaknesses in terms of these micro-skills; and ? Identify potential areas requiring further development. NB. The resubmission policy only applies to the entire completed assessment (i.e. Both parts 1 and 2 together) and not on one or the other individual part of this assessment.
