I have attached the case study and assignment brief. You need to focus on Joyce as the service user but also pick a little on her children. The way I would like you to write it is: psychology Define attachment Bowlby attachment theory Alzheimer’s diseases Effects on someone and their families You pick attachment theory Psychosocial And others Then Sociology Feminism Functionalist Single parent_ deviant Depression Care Act Social Policy The policies around Joyce age Mental health The care act I think both these choices will fit well with Joyce. However, the attachment could be considered with regards to her relationships with both her daughters. This could be due to her own experience being stigmatised as a single parent; the need to focus on providing the basic needs for her children rather than the development of secure relationships; the wider impact of poverty affecting the ability to build trust/attachment with her children. This needs to be considered in the context of the historical period she lived in – mixed relationships were more likely to be frowned on by wider society, for instance. But this is historical and I think that focusing o her current situation is also of benefit, as you can use the humanistic approach to consider may be how she could respond to her own impairment and maybe how this will further impact on her daughters’ impairments? With regards to Feminism, this is a good choice for Joyce, as you are considering the conflict theory, which, as you say, considers the norm of poverty for women on their own, due to the inequality in society that exists through patriarchal power. Women, according to functionalism, have a specific role to care and should be married with a husband to provide for the family. Joyce did not fit into this ‘norm’, so experienced disadvantage. Feminism has enabled us to move on (if only slightly) in how women fit into society now (check the MP who was very recently told that she could not take her baby in) and although stigma still exists, it is not as marked as it used to be. You can also apply feminism to the family, who are all female and have been able to self-care/self manage until recently. The limited resources that you mention are due to men being in power and the expectation that a woman relies on a man – this is reflected in pay differences; education differences and opportunity differences. This leads to a greater likelihood that a woman living independently is doing so in poverty.
