Task: Attend a church/temple/place of worship/meditation service of a religion or denomination different from the one in which you were raised or different from one with which you are familiar and then write a response paper about the experience
1. Use MLA Format.
2. Provide an introductory statement for each section as well as an concluding statement for each section.
3. Effectively organize your body paragraphs.
4.Begin each body paragraph with a topic sentence and end each with a concluding sentence.
1. Observation: Time and place, and description of the building or environment, details of the service, including any special garments, decorations, costumes, iconography, etc. and of course, details about what occurred during the service. Explain the context of this particular event in the life of the community.
2. Interpretation: Explain the impact on the followers cognitively and affectively within the larger belief system of that group. In other words, what are they getting out of the experience? You are encouraged to interact or interview members of the group for more depth and clarity (when and if appropriate)
3. Response: Describe how the experience affected you. What happened to any assumptions, preconceptions or stereotypes? Were you able to sympathetically relate to what was going on? If not, why? Please note that you are not expected to participate in rituals or engage in practices that you feel would compromise your own religious beliefs.
