-As John Wayne is our most featured actor this semester, his Ole Olsen is very easily the most offbeat, as he plays a goofily sweet Swede amidst a tough Irish ensemble of ‘drunken sailors.’ (His accent is a mandatory discussion point, albeit a brief one.)
-Ford teams up again with Dudley Nichols and Gregg Toland
As Welles would credit Toland in his title card for ‘directed by’ a year later in CITIZEN KANE, Ford acknowledges his cinematographer as his major collaborator.
