Each of the four research papers in this class will give you the opportunity to explore current issues in our four concentrations: space policy, astronomy, aerospace science, and space entrepreneurship. These prompts are meant to give you the flexibility to delve more deeply into an aspect of the field that interests you. We will begin with a topic in space policy. Your prompt for this paper is: “Choose one of the current US space treaties (Outer Space Treaty of 1967, the Commercial Space Act of 1984, etc – see Who Owns the Moon) and research it in depth. Then, for your paper, analyze the greatest strengths and weaknesses of the treaty.” Guidelines for your paper: Your paper should be written for a knowledgeable, scientific audience, not a general audience. Your paper should be written in formal scientific style with no first/second person references. It should be 3-4 pages in length, not counting the title page or references. Follow the APA Style Guide Topics discussed should be supported by a variety of evidence with clear analysis and at a depth appropriate for a 500-level course (see the upper parts of Bloom’s Taxonomy). Any grand statements need to be grounded in the evidence provided and hyperbole should be avoided. Instructor feedback on your outline submission is expected to be incorporated into your final paper. Please review the rubric for additional expectations.
