In the second paragraph especially yuo jumbo between devices without too much indication, and I think it leads to a bit of confusion. You are talking about a lot of literary devices, imagery, and lineation choices within the poem. I think perhaps limiting your analysis to fewer examples might help you in clarifying the ponts you are making. I think it would also help towards lowering the word count, which I feel is too far over at this point. I would aim towards cutting 50-100 words, by the time you finish the paper.”

General guideline : Having already closely read several poems from Citizen in lecture, this assignment asks you to read closely a poem that we won’t be taking up in that work. The poems chosen for this assignment are instead drawn from Rankine’s first book, The End of the Alphabet. These poems are available in pdf called “Poems for Assignment 1.”
As discussed below, the goal of this assignment is twofold: you should undertake a close reading, attending to the poetic features of the poem, but you should also be sure to make an argument about that poem. For instance, you might notice that one of Rankine’s poems is light on punctuation, and that this feature tends to hurry along your reading. This is a good example of close attention to punctuation. From this OBSERVATION you will then move onto ARGUMENT: “Because of the haste that this performs, we can see that this poem is about the hectic panic of emotion rather than the clear thinking of retrospection.”
