Students will write an original research paper (not including the references, double-spaced, typed) that provides a critical review of the assigned readings. There are four articles that should be considered for this paper. Each paper should synthesize the assigned readings for the respective topic. The synthesis should discuss: (1) what is the primary question that the various readings are attempting to answer, or what is a common theme that is addressed by the various readings; (2) discuss how a theoretical premise is utilized (e.g., do authors present new ideas, apply ideas from one setting to another, borrow ideas from another discipline); (3) provide an overall critique (strengths and weaknesses) of the ideas and/or research (this may include a critique of how well a theoretical premise is utilized); and (4) discuss possible research areas (you may want to scrutinize) related to the weekly topic. Again, your paper is not a summary of the readings; papers that emphasize summarization rather than a critical review will receive lower grades. You may integrate additional sources if so desired, though this is not necessary. All sources must be accompanied with internal citations.
