Your assignments are to compile information about certain media content and write a report about your observation on the content of the shows/media content. The purpose of this assignment is to help you analyze media representation and to find out the role of media in creating our perception. Please read the following guidelines:. The paper requires background research on media contents from news magazines as well as journal articles. Then, you will do content analysis research of 3 media content of their choices. Next, you will develop a-5-page full report describing and reporting on your research finding.
Step 1
First, choose a media content area that you want to write about, whether it is film or television
shows. Take notes as you watch, focusing on the following questions:
a. List the central and subordinate characters on the program. Describe each character’s appearance, noting the person’s sex, race, age, size, and level of attractiveness.
b. Consider the plots and subplots of the episodes you viewed. Are sex and/or gender central to these plots and subplots?
c. Consider the gender roles played by each character. Do they conform to the patterns discussed in Chapter 11? If so, how so? If not, how not?
d. Consider the relationships between characters. Do these reflect gendered themes? (You may want to consult material covered in earlier chapters in the textbook for this question.)
Step 2
Think about what you want to explore based on your notes above and find out whether there are people who have written or conducted a study about your topics. You can retrieve this information from any reliable sources, except from Wikipedia site. Please cite 5 sources. Use in text-citation (cite your sources in the paper). Do not quote but paraphrase.
Notes:
As you are outlining your paper, think the following questions before you start writing:
– What was the social context at that time the show/films were aired?
– What was the role of media, before, during and after the shows were getting popular?
– Your last paragraph should be a summary, which include what you can learn from this research experiences.
This essay paper should be at least 4 full-page, 12-font size, double space. In your paper, you need to separate your ideas into five subheadings as follows:
– Introduction and background of study (your reason for movie/TV shows selection)
– Previous studies (research that you cited, see step 2 above)
– Research Focus and research Finding (see step 1 above)
– Conclusion
– Reference
