In this project you will ultimately develop a research question pertaining to a topic in criminal justice. WHICH IN THIS CASE IS CAPITAL PUNISHMENT. You will refine your research problem into a Research Question. Upon familiarizing yourself with related studies, you will propose the method that would be appropriate for studying your research problem and consider the ethical issues that may arise.
What’s the problem?
Identify a criminal justice issue of which you have great interest. Ways to consider a topic are areas that you are pleased, annoyed, surprised, believe need work, or otherwise intrigued by.
State the problem. (Ensure that your statement of the problem covers each of the following elements:
One issue that needs to be addressed (although you are expected to write multiple sentences, ensure that your focus is on only one problem.)
Who is affected? Describes your sample. (For example: suburban youth, elders in nursing homes, middle-aged factory workers, etc.)
Explain how the problem is solvable.
Explain how the problem is measurable (i.e. problem can be framed by discussing scope, size duration, etc.)
Developing a Research Question
Reflect on how research questions emerged from the original problem statement. How can your research problem statement be restated as a research problem and finally a research question? Show your work in a synthesis flow-chart format.

Research Methods
Now that you have reviewed related studies and synthesized your research question, propose the method of study that would be appropriate for studying the issue. Your response must include:
A method of study. Will you use qualitative or quantitative methods or a mixture of the two?
Explain why that is the most appropriate method of study and why others would not be appropriate.
Predict two potential ethical issues that might arise during the research and how you could address them
Summarize the parallel study you reviewed.
What were the primary findings of the parallel study? Using a graph (i.e. bar, area or line chart), explain what the illustration means. Note: You may use an existing graph from the study or use some data from the study and create a visual.
What is your research question and how is it similar to and different from the parallel study?
What did you learn from this project?
