For this project, you will create a brochure that will help to teach parents of a 12-month-old female to care for a g tube at home. You will teach them proper care and management, proper feeding procedure, and how to keep tube clean.
You will teach parents to note for signs and symptoms of infection
You will teach the parents safety regarding G tube
This is not a paper but a brochure that you will get from a hospital or clinic. Be creative. Keep in mind that the parents of the child are not medical professionals and do not have a background in medicine. Teach as if you are teaching a child in the fourth grade.
Here is a little information on the patient: (you do not need to use the patients information in the brochure but this will give you an idea of how to teach parents)
“The patient is a 12 m.o female born at 32 weeks. The patient had a g tube placed in the neonatal period due to anatomical issues.
Patient has been diagnosed with GERD and dysphagia. Patient’s tongue is weak and has decreased movement with
swallow. Patient has delayed oral transit time and often gagged or required several swallows to remove bolus from
the mouth.”
The parents of the child are both teenagers, so keep that in mind when creating the brochure.
The brochure is to have detailed information in simple terms.
