This week we discussed and reviewed network planning. Describe how you would design a logistics network consisting of only one warehouse. In the discussion, including the steps you need to take in order to design the optimal network. What information and data are needed to make this determination? As this is both the final week and the Finals week, your discussion assignment this week is both simple and important. Please take a shot at answering the following questions:
1. What subject that you studied over the past seven weeks was most interesting to you or most applicable to your current job?
2. Propose a new discussion topic you think future students would find interesting.
3. Which homework assignment did you find to be the most challenging?
4. What would you change in the class lesson materials that would aid learning for future students?
After carefully reading Chapter 5 in your textbook and reviewing the additional resources in the Content area of the classroom, think about forecasting using Time-series Data in your organization. Address the three subjects below:
1. What are the various ways a forecast can go wrong using historic data to predict future requirements, resources, or customer demands?
2. What statistical methods are used to “sense demand signals, shape demand, and forecast demand” (Chase, p. 126).
3. What time-series data is used to forecast future demand for products, services, or activities in your organization? From your experience, how accurate is the time-series data that is used to forecast and how accurate are the forecasts?

Prepare a report based on an in-depth evaluation of the impacts of sustainable policies, initiatives and solutions of one major retailer, focusing on the supply chain activities that support its UK operations. Your report should focus on one single retailer from the following list:
Marks and Spencer
Using an appropriate evaluation framework, your report should do the following:
Present the solutions and define the concepts, limits and fields of applications of sustainability policies, initiatives and/or solutions related to your company’s supply chain activities that support its UK operations.
Critically assess your company’s commitment to and progress towards greater sustainability of its supply chain, logistics or freight transport activities, and identify the key benefits and impacts.
Compare how well your business performs on supply chain sustainability in relation to others in its retailing or logistics market (sub-)sector. This should identify in broad terms how your company is positioned relative to its competitors on the key sustainability issues for that market.
You can decide on an appropriate focus on different stages and examples in the supply chain, based on the activities of the chosen company. Where your company has different divisions or trading operations, you can consider the entire company or one specific division/trading operation (e.g. for John Lewis Partnership you can write about the entire Partnership’s goods retailing operation, or focus on either John Lewis & Partners or Waitrose & Partners; the Partnership’s financial services operation, for example, should not be included).
Prepare a one-page description of your Research Project interest. Post the description here in Week 1 discussion (review syllabus for potential topics of interest).
Complete this assignment by discussing the theory and politics of transportation and logistics management. You will have to conduct online research to determine what theories exist in the field. Likewise, you need to determine what political factors are at play and how these factors impact the TLM field. Discuss in detail and provide sources to support your thoughts, insights, ideas, and statements
As organizations grow, they begin to develop organizational behaviors that are comprised of employee personalities and values. Organizational behaviors can change for a number of reasons, including: new management, external factors forcing change within the company, or a shift in the company’s goals. The company’s organizational culture is continuously evolving and is determined by the actions of the leadership team.
The two main questions that needed answered were:
1. What would the impact be on profit from the disposal of obsolete inventory in order to
improve the balance sheet?
2. How do we institute a program to prevent the buildup of obsolete inventories by
disposing of slow movers on a regular basis?

Just as men are from Mars and women are from Venus (or so the saying goes), corporate executives and supply chain professionals are also from different planets. The make-up of executive committees and boards of directors includes people who are largely not from the supply chain world. Talking about faster inventory turns probably invokes some mental image of material spinning around in some god-forsaken facility that few in this group have ever visited. To put it bluntly, you entered the lair of a group whose obsession is strategy, corporate-level indicators, and financial results. You, on the other hand, brought to them a world that is more about tactical operations, nonfinancial indicators, and activities instead of accomplishments. Can anyone spell disconnect? Would it not have been better to speak their language? What would be your suggestion to get both types of management on the same page so to speak? How could you get them to communicate and understand what is important to both of them?
This is a research based discussion in which I would like you to do some extra research once you have read the attached article to answer the question in this discussion. You are expected to comment on this discussion post by Sunday.
After you have read the article entitled “Pricing as a tool in coordination of local transportation” I want you to come up with some new factors/variables that you think affect the American public’s use of mass transit.
