Learning Goal: I’m working on a art writing question and need a sample draft to help me learn.Like Romanticism, Realism was a broad cultural movement in the 19th century that had its origin in literature and philosophy. In painting, its most prominent representative was Gustave Courbet. His Stonebreakers represented workers, as he had seen them, in monumental form. The Stone Breakers, painted in 1849, depicts two ordinary peasant workers. Courbet painted without any apparent sentiment; instead, he let the image of the two men, one too young for hard labor and the other too old, express the feelings of hardship and exhaustion that he was trying to portray. Do you think that Courbet shows these figures as empathetic, and if so how? How do the physical attributes of the painting (the cramped space, the dark brooding colors and the even light) affect our reading of it? MUST BE AT LEAST 500 WORDS with 3 citations from 3 different sources

Final Exam: You will be sending me your exams through Blackboard and Email. When submitting please write in the subject heading: “Your last name” and “FINAL EXAM”. Remember this is a test, not a research paper. It is your opportunity to show me how much you have learned over the course of the semester. This should be written all in your own words—no quotes from the text (or other source) and no bibliography is necessary. Answer ALL of the following questions. The responses should be carefully thought out and be at least 250-350 words each.
Question One: Choose and fully identify two specific works made after 500 CE that combine images with text. The works must come from different art historical periods. Note: Do not choose works with text consisting only of names, labels, or artists’ signatures. Discuss the relationship between text and image in the two works you have chosen.
Question Two: Look at Richard Hamilton’s Just what is it that makes today’s homes so appealing? (Pop Art) and Jan van Eyck’s Arnolfini Portrait (Northern Renaissance) and explain why each is characteristic of their time, place and artistic movement. In your response, explain both the style and subject and how they are similar and how they are different to each other.
Question Three: “It is scarcely possible, even with hard work, to imitate what Michelangelo accomplished. This ceiling is a true beacon of art, and it has brought such enlightenment to painting that it illuminated a world which for hundreds of years had been in a state of darkness.”– Giorgio Vasari, Lives of the Most Eminent Painters, Sculptors and Architects (1550, 1568). In the quotation above, Vasari articulates a concept of artistic progress with reference to Michelangelo. During what art-historical period did Michelangelo paint the ceiling mentioned in the quotation? How did the ceiling exemplify Vasari’s claims about Michelangelo’s accomplishments?

Instructions Art Museum Assignment Course Objective(s): CO-1: Identify major works of Western and Non-Western art from the Neo-Lithic to the Post-Modern periods. CO-2: Identify major artists and their time periods in Western and Non-Western art. CO-3: Interpret art terminology in relationship to works of art. CO-4: Describe major works of art. CO-5: Compare and contrast works of art. CO-6: Analyze works of art within their social and historical contexts. Write a 2 page description, formal analysis, and interpretation of one work of art from a virtual museum online. Visit the museum virtually. Please visit an art museum, not a children’s museum for this project. Use the Week 1 How to Write a Critique format. You are writing in an informal manner and are discussing/describing the object with us. Be sure to review the lesson of Description, Formal Analyze, and Interpretation learned in Unit 2. It may be helpful to review the Third of May, 1808 short videos in Unit 2 lecture. Submit your work in the Museum Assignment section. Optionally: also post your paper to the Week 5 Forum designed for the papers. Museum Paper Grading Rubric: The Museum Paper is an analysis paper, not a history or research paper. It is worth 100 points. 60 points: If the student demonstrates a clear understanding of the topic being discussed and addresses all required points in the writing prompt. Be sure to describe the artwork, name and discuss line, texture, space, color and shape, and arrive at an interpretation. What does the artwork say to you personally? Be sure that the paper is two full pages aside from the description of the museum. The museum description should not be included as part of the two page length requirement. Try to choose a museum locally so that you can visit in person at some point and see the artwork that you wrote about. Have fun! 30 points: If the student follows the Writing a Critique Guide provided 10 points: If the student has no spelling or grammatical errors Please e-mail me if you have any questions.

Learning Goal: I’m working on a art case study and need a reference to help me learn.https://www-ontheboards-tv.libproxy.sdsu.edu/performances/in-a-rhythm this essay is about the In A Rhythm performance by choreographer Bebe Miller. (Links to an external site.)Write a richly descriptive essay of 250 – 350 words about the performance. Deeply share your perception of the work. Allow your description to express your understanding of what you perceive. Refer to Deborah Jowitt’s essay “Beyond Description” for ideas on how to write, our work describing all semester, and our class session “Writing for Dance.”This essay differs from Essay 1 in that you must thread a theme throughout your essay. You must not only write observations about the piece, but also offer particular insights about it. There is so much to describe in a 70 minute dance. Make clear choices that demonstrate what matters. Write in the present tense. Dancing is an art form of the present. Note this example of present tenses, “The dancers’ hair is wrapped up in a headpiece that recreates the swirl on top of a soft serve ice cream cone. They toss a fist full of snow into the air before bouréeing to a frontal position. For the first time, the audience can see the rippled abdominal muscles, bulging thighs, and brilliant arches of the feet. With a final low extension of the leg the dancers exit the space.”Your paper must have a title that is interesting and related. It can not be the same title as the show.Basic foundations:Only complete sentences
Only standard academic English
Perfect spelling
You must have paragraphs. These are indicated by a single tab indentation
Write in the present tenseEssay must include the full name of the choreographer and title of the work.
I expect your writing to be:
Richly descriptive
Engaging, nuanced, and original
Absent clichés
Without passive voice
Without word repetition
Without equivocation. Do not use terms like, “seems to be,” “might be,” “appears to,” etc.
Generous with your reader
Creative
Writing StyleEliminate word repetition in order to diversify your images.
Do not use contractions, ex. don’t
“A lot” is too informal for this type of essay
Do not use abbreviations. (Write “improvisation,” not improv. Use “introduction,” not “intro.”)
Do not depend on quotations to carry a message. “Normal” and “classic” written with quotations are not appropriate stand-ins for explaining what you mean by these terms.
De-center yourself in order to assert your ideas clearly.Instead of “What catches me off guard…” consider “The dancers unexpectedly‚”
Instead of “I slowly notice” it could be “A subtle change emerged, …”
ProcessI recommend making your own printed copy of a draft if possible. Using a pencil/pen, cross out unnecessary wordiness by “greenlining” (see Omission by John McPhee). If you cannot print, undertake this editing process digitally.
Use the “real estate” of your page well. Like a small dorm or family room, make the best of the space you have.

Learning Goal: I’m working on a art writing question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.1. Watch the 2 films. Choose 1 artwork from each film.2. Make sure the 2 artworks are completely different mediums. Some examples: paint, graphite/pencil, charcoal, clay/ceramic, marble, bronze, glass, wood, etc.3. Make sure the 2 artworks are not of the same type, meaning you cannot discuss 2 paintings despite one being acrylic and another oil, or 2 sculptures despite one being bronze and the other marble, etc. The idea is to discuss 2 artworks that obviously seem different at first glance4. Discuss how the 2 artworks are different both visually and in their mediums/use of materials. 5. Discuss what makes the 2 artworks similar. Do not go to Google for answers to the questions or supporting information. The comparing & contrasting experience is about you telling me your very own thoughts and opinions while considering/discussing your chosen artworks from the documentary films. If any portion of your entry is not yours, meaning you used/referred to other sources, your journal entry will receive a zero.Write a short essay that answers the above criteria in no more than 250 words.Be sure to document which films you chose. In addition, you must not forget to provide the titles of each artwork and time stamp them accordingly from the film they appeared in (Riace Bronze at 12:16 in “Beneath the Calabrian Sea”). Sometimes the films can be sketchy with art piece titles, so this is security for backing you up. The purpose of this exercise is to promote critical thinking. Be sure to provide detailed and supportive answers.Points will be distributed in this manner:Original and relevant content (10 points max) – Displaying you have studied and are knowledgeable of the material by writing your own thoughts and feelings regarding the material’s content. A critical analysis (10 points max) – Exhibiting you have engaged with the material by providing original, insightful observations and thought-provoking commentary.Quality of writing (10 points max) – Cleary and concisely articulates ideas and feelings about the material utilizing good sentence fluency (syntax), spelling, and grammar. College-level writing is required.DO NOT use outside sources to help write your journal entry.
