I find the victim retribution theory to be the most appealing. If a person harms another person, they should be repaid for what they went through. This theory is most appealing to me because it puts the victim’s feelings and experiences first. In a situation where a crime has been committed (especially a violent crime), the victim should always be considered first.
2) While I think a system of punishments fitting crimes would be ideal, it is logically impossible. There is no way to perfectly execute a system where every criminal has the same crime committed against them. America has found a system that uses the same punishments for each crime, but at different levels of severity (for example: years in prison) which is the closest we can realistically get to punishment fitting the crime.
3) It is unreasonable to suggest that Bob should be sent to prison or fined for a ridiculous amount of money. The crime that needs to be punished here is breaking and entering. The picture is irrelevant because he has already committed a more (for lack of a better word) important crime that should be addressed first. Bob should be given the typical punishment for breaking and entering.
4) In a situation where Bob kills Sally’s grandmother, she should be able to decide his punishment. Grandma is no longer around to make the decision, and as far as we know she is no longer affected by it. The only person who is continuing to live with the repercussions of the crime is Sally, therefore Sally should decide what a fitting punishment is for the person who killed her grandmother and caused her so much emotional pain.

The Pro-Immigration argument that I have chosen is: The Earth belongs to everyone (or no one). The statement “The Earth belongs to everyone (or no one)” can be used to support both pro-immigration and anti-immigration. Strengths: Humanitarianism: It can be seen as a humanitarian perspective that encourages helping those in need, especially refugees. Global Equality: This perspective advocates for a more distribution of resources and opportunities. By having this saying it can bring more people to the US. Jobs will open up which will give females an opportunity to bring in income. One of the greatest challenges this saying brings is it doesn’t have many rule regulations with it. Many people will find this to be a big red flag. I think personally with this negative there’s more cons than pros. By asserting that the Earth belongs to everyone, it challenges the concept of strict national borders and emphasizes the interconnectedness of all human beings.
For con I will be discussing Not responsible for other people’s bad luck. The statement “Not responsible for other people’s bad luck” means that people or nations should not be responsible for the challenges faced by others. This perspective emphasizes individual freedom and autonomy. People should have the right to determine their own destiny. I don’t think any other country should have a say in this. For example if China was having a national problem and they asked the US for help. I don’t think we should be forced to say yes to helping. I think it’s okay to say no. A con for this statement is it can be seen as having a lack of empathy and compassion. I can definitely see this but at the end of the day we live in a world where many people don’t care about others and how they feel.
I believe the US should not have an obligation to help out other nations’ people. The US should only focus on the problems of the US. If we spend too much time helping out other countries we will forget the problems of our own country. We’re dealing with major problems on our own, and it doesn’t seem right if we set those aside just to help out another country’s problem before ours.

I choose “great for global economy”. This Pro immigration point of view basically states that allowing immigration to occur will not only benefit the countries economy but the global economy. The only strength i could think about is the fact that their would be more money being spent on food, clothes etc. otherwise i could be blind to it, but i cant see how this would help the world economy. one weakness i can think of is that allowing immigrates into a country to work and make a decent living is taking that money… and sending it OUT of the country, back home to their family’s. well you could say this is helping the world economy.. it sure aint helping my economy. prices go up and up and all money keeps going out.
i choose the “home analogy”. to keep this one shorter, this analogy is asking you if someone knocked on your door and demanded they come in and/or breaks their way in, and u tell them no or kick them out. are your immoral for that? did you do the wrong thing? i like this analogy and find a strength to be that most people can agree if a person knocked on their door and demanded to come in. most people would say no. and close the door. its a relatable analogy, that’s pretty hard to argue. a weakness i think this analogy has is that you don’t see all the other house/doors this person knocked on. This could be their last door, their last ditch effort to get a better life. this analogy doesn’t show the struggle the person knocking on the door is going through.
no, still do not think we are obliged to do anything. we live in America.. land of the free, home of the brave. they may allow themselves into this country in every legal way possible. i am not obligated to allow anyone into my home, but i have every right to kick someone out of my home who has illegal broken in and decided to sleep on the couch.

The PowerPoint Presenter Project: Then & Now
Develop a PowerPoint Presentation to help us appreciate some aspect/theme of a particular Harlem Renaissance artist’s work in detail and compare/contrast to a contemporary Black artist’s work in order to trace themes and track differences in treatment of significant topics over the last 100 years. NOTE: This is also your fail-safe project. If your movie or your Wikipedia venture fails spectacularly, you can still use your images and ideas to put together this PowerPoint project.
Your goals:
Introduce us to a theme in a Harlem Renaissance artist’s work and a contemporary Black artist’s work (e.g., later than the year 2000).
Develop a PowerPoint presentation that includes high quality images of the artwork (including close ups and details) as well as auxiliary mark-ups (such as horizon lines, compositional shapes, etc.)
Your job is to provide a meditation on the way that the treatment of some theme or issue has changed in Black representation over the last 100 years.
Include a minimum of 25 slides, including a title slide and a Works Cited slide.
Record and/or type specific and analytic narration of your discussion of each slide.
Be sure to model excellent MLA documentation practices.

This week’s videos describe a few of ways that one might attempt to argue for the claims that,
(a) US citizens are morally obligated to help another nation’s adults and/or children by allowing them entry into the US.
(b) US citizens are not morally obligated to help another nation’s adults and/or children by allowing them entry into he US.
This week’s tasks:
1) Select and provide an analysis of one of the PRO IMMIGRATION arguments described in this week’s videos/outline. Tell us which one you select and briefly summarize/restate it in your own words. Then, describe what you consider to be its strengths and weaknesses. For example, does each of the argument’s reasons seem to be true, plausible, etc.? Or, might one of more of the reasons seem false, implausible, etc.? Does the argument provide all that’s needed to convince one that its conclusion is true? If not, then what’s missing? Does the argument rely upon, assume, and/or incorporate some widely accepted/shared values/disvalues? Such will tend to make an ethical/moral argument more convincing. Or, might its assumed values/disvalues be too vague, too infrequently shared, etc., to be of much help?
2) Select and provide an analysis of one of the CON IMMIGRATION arguments described in this week’s videos/outline. Tell us which one you select and briefly summarize/restate it in your own words. Then, describe what you consider to be its strengths and weaknesses. For example, does each of the argument’s reasons seem to be true, plausible, etc.? Or, might one of more of the reasons seem false, implausible, etc.? Does the argument provide all that’s needed to convince one that’s its conclusion is true? If not, then what’s missing? Does the argument rely upon, assume, and/or incorporate some widely accepted/shared values/disvalues? Such will tend to make an ethical/moral argument more convincing. Or, might its assumed values/disvalues be too vague, too infrequently shared, etc., to be of much help?
3) Your decision. After considering the variety of PRO/CON immigration arguments described in this week’s videos/outline, does it seem likely that US citizens have a moral obligation to help another nation’s adults and/or children by allowing them into the US. If so, why so? If not, why not?
