DISCUSSION for Advanced Practice Nursing Role in Continuous Quality Improvement:
Nurses are critical to the surveillance and coordination of quality and safety initiatives. However, all members of the healthcare team must coordinate and collaborate with each other to provide quality interprofessional care. Without interprofessional education (IPE) and interprofessional practice, the ability to achieve the conceptual components of quality as noted by the IOM (2001) quality care is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable, may not be possible.
