The thesis of the paper- There are many stereotypes that face transgender youth such as the belief that transgender youth have mental health issues or psychological problems. A transgender person does not identify with the sex they were assigned at birth and this puts transgender youth in our society at risk for discrimination, homelessness, and violence including murder and suicide. The expectation that our society holds is for children to identify with the gender that matches the sex they were born with and they should adopt a clear and defined gender role. Any deviation from the expected gender role puts transgender youth at serious risk of marginalization.
